Sertã was the birthplace to such notable men as D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, Gonçalo Rodrigues Caldeira, António Lopes dos Santos Valente and Padre Manuel Antunes.

In the last century, the county had the privilege of enjoying the potential of three large reservoirs that controlled the rushing river Zêzere: Cabril, Bouçã and Castelo do Bode.

Gastronomy is a precious rarity of this municipality. The most known are the maranho (kind of maw filled with rice, ham and sausage), stuffed tripe and the fish soup, but sausages, river fish, corn bread, almond cartridges, coscorões (kind of wafers), sweet snacks, goat cheese, fresh cheese and brandy with berries are also particularly noteworthy.

“This is an extremely important project that allows us to maximize one of our touristic sides, the river Zêzere and the water sports. It is a winning bet both for the Sertã Municipality and the Region, because it will attract many athletes worldwide. We want Castelo do Bode Lake, next to Trízio, to be recognized as a place of excellence for wakeboarding and wakeskating, and it will reinforce the position of Portugal and this region as a nautical and water sports destination.”

José Farinha Nunes, Mayor of Sertã
