Sertã was the birthplace to such notable men as D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, Gonçalo Rodrigues Caldeira, António Lopes dos Santos Valente and Padre Manuel Antunes.
In the last century, the county had the privilege of enjoying the potential of three large reservoirs that controlled the rushing river Zêzere: Cabril, Bouçã and Castelo do Bode.
Gastronomy is a precious rarity of this municipality. The most known are the maranho (kind of maw filled with rice, ham and sausage), stuffed tripe and the fish soup, but sausages, river fish, corn bread, almond cartridges, coscorões (kind of wafers), sweet snacks, goat cheese, fresh cheese and brandy with berries are also particularly noteworthy.
